Car Insurance Tip of the Day
FACT: There are two main reports that auto insurance companies use when evaluating your premiums as their customers and the rates
you may be quoted as a potential new customer. They are driving history reports - one details any tickets or traffic citations and the other
details insurance claims you or anyone in your household.
3.) Not knowing your driving history (Part II)
Remember when you called your car insurance for roadside assistance? It officially was listed as an insurance claim. Every car insurance
company can see it for 5 years (CLUE Report) along with any accidents you've had (either your fault or somebody else's) and any accidents
of every driver and any vehicle on your policy, even though it's not your car and you were not anywhere close to the accident scene. A lot
of car insurance companies (ex. your current insurance provider) will only use this data in calculating your rates dating back three years.
Getting an insurance quote from
any other insurance company is a different story. Depending on the state, the insurance company can
look back up to five years (Seven years in NY, CA).
