Car Insurance Tip of the Day

FACT: Even though you've called and/or written your car insurance company, they may not have your vehicle correctly logged in their data base. Yes, its probably insured, but possibly misidentified.

11.) Oops - Typing Errors (Part II)
The second biggest mistake occurs with your car or truck's specific identity. Every vehicle has its own VIN (vehicle identification number). Each VIN is 19 characters long (for vehicles made after 1982) or 9 characters (prior to 1982). VINs that begin with a number, 1 through 9, were manufactured in the U.S. and VINs that begin with a letter, A through Z, were manufactured elsewhere around the world. Your vehicle's VIN is located in several places on your vehicle including your windshield (where the dashboard meets the windshield by drivers side mirror [easily viewable from standing outside]), on your inside door rocker panels and etched on the windows of some vehicles.

NOTE: There is no "O" (as in Oldsmobile), "I" (as in Isuzu) or "Q" (as in Quality) located in any VINs. Check your current insurance card or policy and match it up with looking at vehicles. One error in a VIN could cause much higher car insurance quotes and auto insurance policies. Example: You could own a basic 2001 Ford Escort and actually be insuring a 2001 Ford Escort Turbo Limited Edition convertible.
